Engineered hardwood flooring

Engineered hardwood flooring offers unmatched stability

Engineered hardwood flooring consists of several layers of wood, typically ranging from three to ten plies, fused together. This multi-layered composition provides engineered wood with remarkable stability, surpassing that of solid wood. Consequently, it minimizes issues associated with expansion and contraction resulting from fluctuations in temperature and humidity.

Perfect for installations almost anywhere, our engineered flooring is an optimal choice for converting finished basements into welcoming and practical areas.

Discovering the finest engineered wood floors

Unlike SOLID hardwood flooring, which is comprised entirely of hardwood, Engineered hardwood is layered, typically ranging from 3-ply to 9-ply and beyond. In the case of engineered hardwood floors, the more layers the better.

What to look for in engineered hardwood:

  • A wear layer of 1-2 mm and 5 finish coats generally come with a warranty of 10-15 years.
  • Engineered wood with 5 plies and a 2-3 mm wear layer usually offers warranties of 15-25 years.
  • The best quality is found in engineered wood with 7-9 ply layers and a wear layer of 3+ mm, warrantied for 25 years or more.

To assess quality, examine the thickness of the wear layer and the number of finish coats. High-quality engineered floors typically have a 1-2 mm wear layer and 5 finish coats, while better options feature 5-ply construction and a 2-3 mm wear layer.

The best-engineered hardwood flooring boasts 7-9 ply layers and a wear layer of 3+ mm, ensuring warranties of 25 years or longer.

What you must know about engineered floors

  • The number of times engineered flooring can be refinished depends on the thickness of the wear layer. Thicker wear layers can typically be refinished multiple times, while thinner layers cannot be.
  • The wear layer thickness refers to the thickness of the hardwood veneer on top of the engineered flooring. A thicker wear layer generally indicates better durability and longevity.
  • Engineered flooring can typically be installed using a variety of methods, including floating, glue-down, or nail-down techniques.
